Company Profile

Whippendell Marine can trace its existence back over 100 years to Thomas Kesnor & Co Ltd., founded in 1900 in Fulham, London and specialising in mechanical and electro-mechanical devices. In 1911 the business moved to its present site in Watford and in 1916 changed its name to the Watford Electric & Manufacturing Company Limited as a consequences of its concentration on Automatic Switchgear.

Over the following years the Company grew rapidly, expanding its site on a number of occasions, and in 1936 was formed into a public Company, listed in London.

During the Second World War the Company's output was concentrated on manufacturing electrical control gear for the Royal Navy.

After the war the Company returned to producing commercial electrical control gear, although it continued to supply naval equipment.

Growth continued with the development of new ranges of Contactors and Fuse Switches, and this eventually lead to the acquisition of the Company by Harvey Hubbell Ltd. in 1967.

In 1975 a management buyout of the Systems Division lead to the creation of Whippendell Electrical Manufacturing Company (Watford) Ltd., being re-named Whippendell Electrical Ltd. in 1994.

In 1999 the Company acquired The Electrical Apparatus Company (UK) Ltd. and four years later Ramac Engineering Ltd.
